5524 Van Dyke Rd, – there is at least one more location, on Dale Mabry
Azul Tacos is a food truck, tucked behind a Shell Station. For some reason, the prices are slightly higher at this location for the same menu items than at the other one. For a truck behind a gas station, it is a business location and does a brisk business.

The Food
I ordered a chicken burrito and a beef taco Azul. They have no sides to speak of and no street corn. The burrito was big and fat and a little pricey…about $12. The flour tortilla was a little gummy but it was packed full of ingredients. The taco Azul didn’t seem to be particularly authentic. It appeared to be just ground beef in a corn tortilla-but not a particularly good tortilla. The beef might have been food processed, but it certainly wasn’t shredded.

The Sauces
For the sauces, I asked for just whatever they had that was hot. They gave me a green and a red. The green wasn’t bad–tomatillo based and a little sweet, but it didn’t have enough flavor to do much for the food. The red one was a thin sauce that was a little hot but not that much. Neither one had any thickness. and they were probably just supplier-bought pre-made sauces.
The Experience
The food wasn’t exactly top-notch Mexican, but I enjoyed the experience. There was a nice little shaded enclave with tables to eat your food.
Verdict
The place was good to satisfy hunger but it wasn’t exactly among the best Mexican food around. Judging by the people who were there it does seem to do a brisk business amongst local workers and presumably people who stopped for gas.
